Photo

This month we are displaying a photo from the collection of Johanna Storrønning. Storrønning was born in 1906 and grew up in Røros in Trøndelag. In the 1930s she travelled to Finnmark to work as a nurse at the Talvik tuberculosis and children’s hospital. In 1988, she donated her album with 164 photos from her years in Finnmark to Alta Museum.

The photo was taken between 1934 and 1940 and depicts three young Sami girls looking into a basement window. The photo caption recounts the location as Vollbakken, Finnmark. We have no further knowledge about the photo, and would be very grateful if someone could contribute further information.
